1. What inspired you to get into this industry?
Being able to have my form of beauty captured in a fun, sensual or messy snapshot while inspiring other women to be confident in their own skin. Also traveling all over and meeting so many different types of people is an amazing experience that this industry allows!
2. How long have you been modeling?
3 years officially, but I did some pretty killer glamour shots at k-mart when I was 10. Does that count as the start of my career?
3. Who is your favorite model?
Jamila Wardknott or Miss Tina Louise
4. Were you always comfortable in your own skin and in front of the camera?
No, no, no! Before I started modeling I was that girl that you couldn’t even snap a cell phone picture of without me covering my face. When I started modeling I realized I could be a different and confident character in front of the lens and show off different aspects of my personality. It really MADE me more confident in person after gaining that confidence in front of the camera.
5. Did you have any mentors who really helped mold and guide you?
I did, some amazing people who started off as complete strangers. I have met both models and photographers from all over the world who have been there to give advice and help boost my confidence. I’ve discovered that the modeling community is actually one made up of a lot of great comraderie and support!
6. Do you have any tips for aspiring models in the industry?
Start off doing lots of different styles you are interested in to build a diverse portfolio and to really hone in on what you enjoy most. Have fun with it!
7. Do you have a WTF moment at a shoot?
I have many wtf moments when shooting ha ha. To me it should be fun. I am a firm believer in capturing the necessary looks while having fun. There are times I am posing where I have wtf moments because I’m just too tense or TOO focused or not being myself. That shows in your photos. Let it go, have fun and be comfortable in front of the camera (not in your poses though because if you’re not contorting your body in the most awkward ways, you’re probably doing it wrong ha ha)
8. What are some of the biggest revelations you've discovered through modelling?
That even the most beautiful people have their insecurities, and in an industry that gives the perception of perfection, there is a lot of pressure. It is possible to accept yourself and to bring the sexy at any size!
Also, it is all about the ride. To me, the goal IS the journey. I feel so many people get too stuck on a single end goal and don’t enjoy the journey to get there. It’s a really challenging ride at times, but it can be so wonderful too.
Everyone has their own style. Don’t try to be someone else. I try to learn from the models I admire, however I realized they’re them, and I’m me, and that’s what makes this industry so great. There are so many different forms of beauty!
9. Tell us something random about yourself.
I am an animal whisperer. Like bring me any animal, and I will make friends with it. Also, I can mimic animal noises with freakish accuracy. Not something I tend to go around doing at parties ha ha, but it’s there
10. What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of all the hats I get to wear and the fact that I can juggle them. I’m a mom, a bartender, a nerd (working for an engineering firm), a traveling model/actress and much more. Being able to accomplish great things in such different facets of life makes me proud! :-)
11. When it's all said and done, what do you want to be remembered as?
As someone who lived and learned and brought others in on my journey in positive ways by encouraging them to do the same. We get one life and to me it is about gaining knowledge and experiences with people from all walks of life.
