Name: Angie Salinas
Photographer: Cam Perry
Makeup Artist: Angie Salinas
1. What inspired you to get into this industry?
Modeling is art, you can create anything you set your mind into just by a shot of a picture, it’s incredible with what visions you can accomplish , every photographer and model has a different look they can offer which I find it extremely appealing. I’ve always wanted to model and create what I encounter.
2. How long have you been modeling?
I started modeling Since I was 14 years old, it has been a crazy 4 year journey.
3. Who is your favorite model?
Adriana Lima is by far the best model I have yet seen. Her passion and commitment is out of this world.
4. Were you always comfortable in your own skin and in front of the camera?
Absolutely not. For years I struggled with appearance I always had this look I was striving for, the media, the judgment by people, getting bullied in school not only made me self conscious, but it made me become bulimic for years just to be a “shape” that I wanted to be.
5. Do you have any tips for aspiring models in the industry?
I think the best thing you can do is be who you are and learn how to love yourself so you can portray that confidence through your images. There’s nothing more beautiful than confidence and the second you have that no one can take that away from you, not bad experiences, not judgment of others. Despite your experiences and judgment once you have that confidence you will mold yourself and guide you and just become the best version of yourself in and out of modeling.
7. Do you have a WTF moment at a shoot?
I’ve had many, I’ve had almost every experience possible when it came to shooting, I’ve been stranded by a photographer before, I’ve had photographers never send me pics and just never reply I’ve had a combination of everything but it never discouraged me to keep going.
8. What are some of the biggest revelations you've discovered through modelling?
I think it has to be how to love myself a little more every time. I was told that because of my height I was never going to get payed shoots or even become a model. I was told I would never encounter what I wanted because of things I could not control. Not only did that “no you can’t do this” pushed me to become stronger but it made me love myself a little more every time. Every time I look at a picture of myself I learn to love that image which is me. My body, even my height. I’ve created a confidence a lot of hobbies have never.
9. Tell us something random about yourself.
I want to join the Marine Corp, I love helping people in anyway possible I don’t know something about it gives me motive for this life, modeling is great but as a person I’m grateful for the life I have, the experiences I’ve had from every individual I’ve met and I’m grateful, I love talking to others , specially those doubting their life I love helping people with issues and just anyway possible it gives me motive. I didn’t always have someone by my side when I needed someone I felt alone and I don’t ever want anyone to feel like they have to get through anything alone specially if I’m around. I love animals, love them. They’re precious and innocent and I’ve always since I was little loved every animal including frogs and worms I think they’re all living things and they all deserve as much respect as any other living thing.
10. What are you most proud of?
I think one of my biggest accomplishments which I’m so proud of has to be slowly getting out of depression, I started modeling when I was in my worst years, I was depressed in fact I was suicidal, I did two attempts, I leaned to drugs, I was bulimic and I was at the worst stage of my life where I questioned whether I wanted to wake up tomorrow, and people that have truly experienced depression, suicidal depression can tell you it is one of the most difficult things to get out of, you have to want to get out, no one can help you but yourself, you have to find that strength from within you to get up and be grateful for what you have been giving and till this day I am more proud than anyone to have experienced this crazy journey, it molded me it gave me strength and it shaped me to be the person I am now.
11. When it's all said and done, what do you want to be remembered as?
I want to be remembered as the girl that despite everything she’s been through she accomplished everything she set her mind to.
