Straight from the streets of Paris, L’Oréal Professionnel brought “La Nuit de la Coiffure” to downtown Toronto. On May 12th SKYN joined L'Oréal Professionnel for one of the biggest nights ever dedicated solely to hair, trends, and beauty.

SKYN sat down with L'Oréal Professionnel Portfolio Artist Luigi Di Tacchio to talk about all things hair, trends, and L'Oréal Professionnel Hair Fashion Night.

Luigi Di Tacchio

SKYN: Luigi, tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you?

LDT:  I am Owner and Artistic Director of Inception Hair Studio.  I’ve been a hairstylist for 23 years.  I’ve been on the Canadian Team 3 times representing  Canada at the World Championships. I’ve been multiple time winner and finalist for many competitions.  Also trainer too many winners of competitions.  Most recently winner of the Reign Supreme of 2014 for Bangstyle.

SKYN: Well that's a little ridiculously incredible! Actually though? That's insane! Congratulations Luigi! What got you into hair artistry?

LDT: I got into the industry because of my father and many other members of my family.  You can say it’s in the blood.

SKYN: That's amazing. So you've been doing this a long time then. How many years would you say you've been doing this for?

LDT: I’ve been practicing hair for 23 years.

SKYN: So legit a lifetime. Now we couldn't help but notice you and your amazing work at L'Oreal Professionnel Hair Fashion Night, could you tell us a bit about what that event was all about?

LDT: Thank you.  I love doing hair and making people feel better about themselves.   The night was really important.  It was the first Canadian Hair Fashion Night.  We were one of 32 countries that participated worldwide at the same time and same date.  It was about reigniting the women’s desire to go to salons and getting the ultimate L’Oreal Professionnel experience.  It was also about focusing on what the trending looks are at the moment.  A L’Oreal Professionnel Portfolio Artist would give you expert advice on one of the 9 different looks that were available to them.  This is all about unleashing the star within them.

SKYN: That's so neat! We love how empowering it is. And to be one of 32 countries putting this on at the same time on the same date worldwide?! That's really cool, and really makes you realize what an amazing global community we really have. So happy L'Oreal Professionnel did this! How long have you been working with them?

LDT: I’ve been a Portfolio Artist with L’Oreal Professionnel for 10 years.

SKYN: Oh wow, so quite some time then! They must be doing something right to have been lucky enough to have you for 10 years. What is it that you love about L'Oreal Professionnel?

LDT: The brand is one of the best out there.

SKYN: That's certainly a great thing to love! We have to say, they're not only one of the best out there, they're also great at putting on some of the best events out there. Events like Hair Fashion Night. Why do you think events like Hair Fashion Night are such a hit?

LDT: It was an amazing event. For the stylist it was a great chance for us to connect with consumers and showcase our expertise.  I think for the women they felt like they were taken care of and they had an opportunity to get pampered by some of L’Oreal Professionnel’s top artists. In the end it was a fun evening where they could have their hair done in a fun atmosphere before they went out for the evening.

SKYN: Absolutely - definitely not an everyday thing, and a total treat for those of us lucky enough to be there! It's great how the hair industry has such a positive impact on so many people. What is your favorite part of the industry?

LDT: My favorite part of the hair industry is that each client that comes to see us is a blank canvas.  We have the opportunity to create a piece of art each time a client sits in our chair.

SKYN: So true. Now we know that in this industry you're more than a little renowned, what do you feel you're most known for?

LDT: I feel like I’m known for as a salon hairstylist is always doing great, trendy hair and making sure that my client’s needs are met.  As a Portfolio Artist I feel that if I can educate and make my colleagues better stylists then our industry will evolve and be even better than it is today.

SKYN: Well you're certainly on your way, because you're definitely doing that on the daily. What do you want your legacy to be?

LDT: Same as before.  If I can help make our industry and the hairstylist better.

SKYN: And you're definitely nailing that. Thanks so much for your time, your passion, and all that you do.
