1. What inspired you to get into this industry?
What inspired me to get into this industry was growing up and seeing these beautiful women in catalogs and magazines and I just felt I wanted to be a part of it; I wanted to have my own spot in the modeling industry and make a name for myself.
2. How long have you been modeling?
I've been modeling for about 10-11 years! Time goes by so fast! Even though it's been this long, I feel like things are really just starting.
3. Who is your favorite model?
I don't really have 1 favorite model, but my tops are Abigail Ratchford, Khloe Terae, Vida Guerra, Ashley Salazar... these ladies have taken things to new heights.
4. Were you always comfortable in your own skin and in front of the camera?
Kind of; I've always been pretty photogenic and people would joke "you never take a bad picture!" but when I first started out, I didn't want to do nude work; I was self conscious. It didn't take very long to start showing more skin though, and I'm much more comfortable now, even with my naturally skinny frame which I always hated lol.
5. Did you have any mentors who really helped mold and guide you?
I've had photographer friends give me advice, helped me learn my angles.
6. Do you have any tips for aspiring models in the industry?
Yes! Don't be afraid to be daring. Shoot for a reason other than having nice photos to put up on Facebook or IG; submit. Be persistent, but not annoying if you're wanting a magazine feature or are looking to be agency signed. Handle rejection well. I've been rejected a lot throughout my journey and instead of firing off an angry email, I thank them for getting back to me and I genuinely mean it. And if you face rejection at the time, keep moving and try again later; but try not to let it discourage you.
7. Do you have a WTF moment at a shoot?
I've been stood up twice by the same photographer; safe to say we will never be working together in the future.
8. What are some of the biggest revelations you've discovered through modelling?
How social media can change your life! When I started out, it didn't have as much of an impact as it does now lol.
9. Tell us something random about yourself.
I hate nuts!
10. What are you most proud of?
I'm proud that I've also been taking on photography and since I've done so, I've gained more features on my own than I ever have working with anyone else. Not trying to toot my own horn at all, but it's true. I've also started shooting others and have helped with their goals of getting published as well and that makes me proud. I feel like I'm doing something right.
11. When it's all said and done, what do you want to be remembered as?
Someone who set goals and went after them. Someone who created their own lane in the industry, who was positive and treated everyone equally whether you were well established or just getting started. A badass.
12. Any last things you'd love to highlight?
I just launched my new website and I'm adding merchandise and will be working on posters soon for purchase. I also have stage 1 breast cancer and am not letting it stop me and will continue to model and shoot. I'm also available to book as a photographer. And I always have something in the works, so everybody can stay tuned and follow me! www.LanaElyse.com IG: @lana.elyse.official
