TORONTO FASHION WEEK CANCELED
With innovation and style at the forefront TORONTO FASHION WEEK has always been the go to for the Canadian fashionably elite. Unfortunately, it seems that what was once a bi-annual staple for this big northern city, is now just a thing of the past.
The Canadian Press reported today that IMG Canada & IMG Fashion - the two main organizers - are nixing the whole thing, mainly due to a lack of local support.
"We really felt that our Canadian fashion footprint was not generating the local commercial funding that we really required in order for us to continue producing the event to the highest standard that, really, the industry deserves and the designers in Toronto deserve," Catherine Bennett, senior vice-president and managing director of IMG Fashion Events & Properties, told the Canadian Press.
This isn't the first time TFW has lost one of their major sponsors. Earlier this year, World MasterCard dropped out as the event's title sponsor as well, an omen good for no fashion show. What was once a classic is now no more.
But like with any generational tide, an old end brings new beginnings, and with it hopefully a new business plan! Keep your eyes peeled for what are sure to be some of Toronto's favourites like Toronto Men's Fashion Week, Startup Fashion Week, Mississauga Fashion Week, and Canadian Asian Fashion Week.
