With sleek designs, and convenient functionality, the Helix Cuff is the new wave of wireless headphones. We sat down with Angela Pan, Founder and CEO to chat fashion, tech, and all things wearable tech.
SKYN: Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us! We've heard so many neat things about the Helix Cuff. Could you tell me a bit more about what is it and what's it all about?
AP: Ashley Chloe’s Helix Cuff is the world’s first wearable with extractable Bluetooth headphones on your wrist. It solves the problem of dealing with tangled and easy to lose headphones in a fashion-forward way. Helix Cuff is the beginning of a line of innovative digital wearables that transform the way we interact with technology.
SKYN: That's actually so wild! Legit innovation at it's finest. It's so simple and brilliant at the exact same time. Where does all this innovation come from? Ie. Where are you guys based out of?
AP: Headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area.
SKYN: That's wicked, so not too far away at all. Now when it comes to demographic, who does Ashley Chloe cater to?
AP: Ashley Chloe caters to fashion-forward individuals who crave sleek digital accessories designed expressly for their modern lifestyle. With its world-class product design and engineering teams, Ashley Chloe bridges the gap between high fashion and functional form. The brand’s aesthetically pleasing accessories for iOS and Android™ mobile, wearable and smart devices seamlessly combine performance with style and convenience.
SKYN: It's actually a little ridiculous how smart of an idea this is. Where did you come up with the concept and why did you decide to create the Helix Cuff?
AP: The inspiration behind the Helix Cuff is that I constantly found my wired headphones tangled and want to find an elegant and intelligent solution to solve this pain point.
SKYN: Ha, fair enough. Well you certainly did just that. What are some of the other perks of the Helix Cuff?
AP: With the Helix Cuff, Ashley Chloe offers convenience and optimal sound performance to a diverse audience. Designed purposefully with a sleek form that’s attractive to men and women, Helix Cuff carries high quality headphones for all genders and ages. Helix Cuff pleases with its top notch audio enhancements.
SKYN: So dope. We love how sleek and stylish it is, where did you draw the inspiration for the design from?
AP: Helix Cuff is the world’s first wearable cuff with stereo Bluetooth earbuds on your wrist. Fashion and functionality are the principles on which the Helix Cuff was created. It can take minutes to unravel earbuds. With Helix Cuff, you’ll plug in your headphones in just seconds.
SKYN: Really, really neat. So who would you say it was designed for?
AP: Helix Cuff was designed for people who are always on and always in style. We’ve created something unique for music-lovers, tech users, and smartphone mavens. Helix Cuff delivers an incredible sound experience in a wearable that’s on the cutting edge of modern fashion trends. Our goal is to make carrying headphones convenient and fashionable.
SKYN: *Chuckle. Well you definitely seem to have done just that!
AP: The discreet, miniature compartment inside Helix Cuff accomplishes just that.
SKYN: For sure. Now why did you focus on wrist wear?
AP: We created Helix Cuff knowing that the human wrist is valuable real estate. We knew we would have to provide a lot of value in order to persuade people use a wearable that they will see all the time. We paid a lot of attention to the quality of the aesthetics and materials and created a design that looks sleek and stylish, feels comfortable, and cleverly hides its technological power.
SKYN: That it totally does! Ok, so the tech boom is huge now, where do you see the future of wearable tech going?
AP: I’m excited about the expansion of the wearable ecosystem. Wearables nowadays can come into so many different forms and factors, serving different purposes and offering functions that solve different facets and problems of life. I think wearable can take us far.
SKYN: Oh absolutely! Speaking of going far, you're about to showcase your work at Startup Fashion Week, How do you feel about that? Excited? Nervous?
AP: I’m very excited to showcase Helix Cuff at Startup Fashion Week in Toronto! We see Startup Fashion Week as a valuable place to make connections. From getting exposure with the fashion-forward audience in Toronto and educating them about fashion tech with Helix Cuff, we’re excited to introduce our first product here. We’d love to interact with Canada’s media outlets and discuss potential future partnerships with other startup and Startup Fashion Week.
SKYN: So great to hear. What sort of message do you want to get across with your design? What's the foundation behind your design?
AP: Our design belief is that we wanted to create something new, and usually new things come from existing elements put together in a novel way and we believe that the most interesting things happen in the in-between spaces. Every day, we see new products that play with colors and shapes and try to grab attention using design tricks. Instead of a new design, we wanted to create a whole new product, something people have never seen before.
SKYN: And the Helix Cuff is the perfect fit for that! It's totally new and definitely revolutionary. What's your overall end goal with it?
AP: We want to deliver an incredible sound experience in a wearable that’s on the cutting edge of modern fashion trends. Our goal is to make carrying headphones convenient and fashionable. The discreet, miniature compartment inside Helix accomplishes just that.
SKYN: For sure! Ok, and finally, what do you want to be remembered as?
AP: We want to be remembered as a fashion-forward startup that focuses on creating digital accessories that improve daily use cases. The Helix Cuff is the beginning of a line of innovative digital wearables that transform the way we interact with technology.
