1. What inspired you to get into this industry?
Actually, modelling isn't my "industry". I'm a Neuroscience major & started my profile as an outlet for my creative, fun side. My photos went viral on Instagram which was something I definitely didn't expect. However, I really love working with photographers and other industry professionals, so the ball just keeps rolling!
2. How long have you been modeling?
I did my first shoot in September 2016, so, 10 months!
3. Who is your favorite model?
I'm new to the industry, so don't really resonate with any of the icons just yet! I reference contemporary athletes, such as Jackie Perez, for all the body loving goodness that gives me the confidence to shoot.
4. Were you always comfortable in your own skin and in front of the camera?
Absolutely not. A few years ago I was 30kg heavier than my current state. I was never the girl that people wanted to take photos of, that's for sure. I guess that's what makes modelling so exciting for me. I worked very hard to get my health under control & this new found confidence is rewarding.
5. Did you have any mentors who really helped mold and guide you?
My younger sister is my absolute heart & soul. She put a lot of pressure on me to get my health under control, so I credit her completely for who I am right now.
6. Do you have any tips for aspiring models in the industry?
Well, I'm not a professional by any means, but I do know a thing or two about what it's like to be scared of taking leaps. People are going to be mean & very few will believe in you. But, your courage to persevere will inspire a lot of other people that DO believe in you. So don't let them down.
7. Do you have a WTF moment at a shoot?
Not yet! But a lot of my shoots are in public so no doubt there's a few of those moments waiting for me.
8. What are some of the biggest revelations you've discovered through modelling?
People treat you differently. It's like professional photos dictate how important a person becomes. I find that really weird. I'll be laying on the couch, paying my bills or writing a weekly budget & then read a message from someone about how much they'd like to meet me. I'm flat out getting my Mum to pick up my calls. So, that's forever spinning me out!
9. Tell us something random about yourself.
I can do almost any eating challenge. Like a 3.8kg burger. Yes, I did that.
10. What are you most proud of?
When I was bigger & unhealthy, I gave up a lot. I'd always say that I'd get myself together, but never would. These days people look to me for inspiration and that makes me really proud. I finally got myself together, you know?
11. When it's all said and done, what do you want to be remembered as?
I just want to be remembered as Lauryn. I'm not a celebrity or some popular public figure. I'm just that girl that couldn't compete, but ended up winning the race.
